Downsizers Kerry and Jon Muir built their first Webb & Brown-Neaves home 16 years ago. For their second build, they chose to go with WB again, with their new home in Waterman’s Bay which was completed in December 2017.

“When we decided that we wanted to build again, we didn’t think twice. We just came straight back to Webb & Brown-Neaves because we were so happy with the quality and the people that we dealt with. It was a very good decision,” Kerry said.

Kerry and Jon spent a lot of time looking for an established home, but despite their best efforts, they couldn’t find what they were looking for.

“I always wanted to build again, I love the building process. But all our friends said, ‘you don’t want to build again’ so we decided to have a look. We looked at quite a lot of houses, but everything wasn’t quite what we wanted. There was always something wrong and in the end Jon said maybe it would be an idea to build again, and I pounced on that idea!” Kerry said.

The Muir’s first home was a two-storey version of our Willows Cottage, but this time, they decided to design their dream home from scratch. Kerry and Jon worked closely with the WB Design Team to create something that suited their lifestyle.

“It’s such a great house to live in because it suits us to a T. That was the beauty of getting it drawn up from scratch, to be able to go to the designers and say this is what we want. They really listened to us and what we got is absolutely perfect for us.”

A little over a year since moving in, Kerry and Jon are loving life in their dream home. “There’s not a single thing I would change. It has actually surpassed all of our hopes.”

For Kerry and Jon, age-proofing their house was a priority, ensuring no changes will need to be made in the future. Including a lift in their design has secured their forever home. “Having a lift has made a big different for us, as we get older, to be able to have a two-storey house,” Kerry said.

“I like to use the stairs and I spend more time upstairs than Kerry does, but I find it a challenge as to how many times I can go up and down the stairs,” said Jon.

“The cats love going up and down in the lift! Jon will often watch sports on the TV upstairs and I’ll say, ‘do you want a coffee?’ and he’ll say, ‘yes please!’ so I’ll make the coffee, stick it in the lift, and call out ‘incoming!’ so he gets his home delivered coffee!” Kerry laughed.

Kerry and Jon wanted two master bedrooms, which was a factor in going with a complete custom design. Jon loves his upstairs bedroom, and his window delivers beautiful views of the ocean.

“If I had to decide on my favourite spot in the house, I think it would be my bedroom, opening the shutters and looking down and seeing all the way down to Fremantle,” said Jon.

“Straight away you can see what the day’s going to be like. It’s a wonderful way to wake up and start your day.”

Kerry and Jon have no regrets in their decision to build again, and they love everything about their new home. “It’s a warm house, it’s got a warm feeling to it. Some houses feel cold and stark; this one is particularly warm.”
