Rod Druce began his career in the Building Industry in 1987. 31 years and over 1,000 homes later, Rod is still just as passionate about helping his clients achieve their dream home, now working as a Building and Design Consultant for Webb & Brown-Neaves.

Rod started out in the lower-end of the market, selling 10-15 single storey-homes each month. After seeing the market go from boom to bust, financial security was a major factor in his decision to pursue work with ABN Group’s flagship premium brand, Webb & Brown-Neaves.

“Webb & Brown-Neaves is a financially secure building company producing quality products by incredible and very likeable people,” he said.

Working at WB, Rod is living his passion every day. “The best thing about being a Building and Design Consultant is being able to help people achieve their expectations for their dream home,” he said.

“I get the satisfaction of seeing the end product and a client whose expectations have been met or exceeded.”

Throughout his career, Rod has seen vast changes within the industry. “I started in 1987 when there were no computers and plans were hand-drawn on a drafting board,” he said. “New homes were sold by standard plans with limited changes. With significant changes in technology, there are endless possibilities for your design, and building a home is a much faster process today.”

It’s not just Rod’s experience selling homes that makes him successful. Rod has extensive experience creating his own family homes. “I have designed and built 7 homes for my family and renovated and extended twice,” he said. “This was with my wife and two kids who are now 21 and 23.”

“My experience over the years allows me to empathise with prospective clients as I can relate to many life experiences.”

When Rod isn’t busy designing beautiful home for his clients, he’s a fitness fanatic, up before 5am on most days to go cycling. He will ride 40-60km before he even starts his work day.

When asked what habit makes him successful, he said “consistency and self-discipline.”

“I take great pride and enjoyment in taking the time to understand my clients’ needs, wants and dreams from the moment we meet.”

Rod’s top building tips for your next home: 1. Establish a realistic budget. This should take into consideration demolition costs (if applicable), site costs, builder construction costs, and finishing costs. 2. Research what you do and don’t like, and research into the builder you wish to build with. 3. Ensure the builder you select is financially secure. 4. Don’t deal with too many builders at once as it will become too confusing. Spend a little bit of time researching and deciding who you want to build with, and then focus your time and energy on your chosen builder. 5. Involve the builder in the selection of your block and be guided on sun aspect levels and estimated site costs. 6. The relationship between the builder and the sales consultant should be honest and transparent.
