Webb & Brown-Neaves latest display home, The Amour, is located in Perth’s affluent suburb of Salter Point. A standout in the street, this home was inspired by French Modern design and classic style that will stand the test of time.

We spoke to WB Design Team Leader, Darren Grunwald about this design and its influence on the evolution of The Amour.

“French Modern has been around for a long time,” Darren said. “The Amour is our take on French Modern and Art Deco. Two long-standing styles within popular architecture.”

These two renowned styles appear in buildings all over the world, taking inspiration from a classic style of architecture.

“The influence of these styles constantly appears in the latest design, finishes and textures through design fares around the world. These are classic styles that are always being re-invented and re-imagined.”

Like the famous city of love, Paris, French Modern is all about romance and elegance. “You will see this in The Amour through such things as the use of Chevron floor, marble tiles, profiled doors and panels to the master suite and living room.”

With the colour scheme consisting of predominantly black and white, this trend is modern and elegant, and is not difficult to incorporate into your home design. If you’re thinking of taking a French Modern approach with your new home, taking inspiration from The Amour is the perfect place to start.

“Getting the façade right is key, traditionally you would have a more symmetrical elevation, however we’ve gone with a more unconventional asymmetrical approach to achieve this look,” Darren said.

“We’ve incorporated the Juliet balconies, verandah and simple colour palette of black and white. The metal awnings above the upper floor windows is our nod to the Bistro style you see walking the streets of Paris. Mouldings and black window bars provide the added touch of elegance.”

And this design trend isn’t going anywhere. Having already been around for many years, French Modern style is only growing in popularity, and you can expect to see it popping up in architecture everywhere.

“This is timeless design. You can feel safe taking inspiration from French Modern design, as it will continue to be prominent in the architecture world for many years to come,” Darren said.

Fall in love with The Amour. Visit at 15 Redmond Street, Salter Point. Open Wednesday 2-5pm, Saturday and Sunday 12-5pm.
